Smoky conditions are expected into the weekend

Poor air quality is expected to continue into the weekend in the Lakeland.

Environment Canada projects smoky conditions to remain through Saturday, which can vary from hour to hour, and also reduce visibility.

They put out an air quality statement starting on Thursday for the Cold Lake region.

People with lung disease like asthma, or heart disease – older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors – are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.

Outdoor activities are not recommended in these conditions.

There are also heavy winds. On Friday afternoon, wind gusts are expected northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40km/h.

A similar weather day is expected on Saturday with similar wind gusts and a high of 24 degrees.

So far, Environment Canada projects smoke to clear up for Sunday, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 23 degrees.
