SPORTSHOUND: Two out of three ain’t bad

Tales from the Timebox for January 10, 2023

Most of the Elk Point Avalanche teams hit the ice this past weekend, but the majority of them were still suffering from the effects of the long Christmas break and didn’t perform that well. Although that isn’t a very good excuse because the teams that they played did have a Christmas break as well. But we will use it anyway. As for the U11 team, they didn’t seem to need an excuse playing three games this past weekend winning two out of three. And as the Meatloaf song goes, “two out of three ain’t bad”

On Friday afternoon, the U11 travelled to Consort, losing this one by a respectable 8 to 6. Then on Saturday at home, they hosted the Lac La Biche Clippers and clipped their wings by a score of 9 to 3. But give the Clippers goalie credit; he faced around 70 shots, so his save percentage is pretty darn good. A pretty good team effort by the Avalanche, who shared the scoring on the game sheet. Ava ‘the Red Baron’ Rawlake swooped in with a hat trick and three assists. Hudson ‘the Bull’ Brousseau rammed his way to the net with a hat trick and two assists. Hunter ‘Hardrock’ Pankiw sniped two goals. Rushing defenseman Lennox ‘All Out’ St. Arnault with two assists. Hudson ‘Hammer’ Krankowski, Rylan ‘the Freight Train’ Kryzandowski, Victoria ‘Miss Vicky’ Page, and Tor ‘the Tornado’ Aarbo all helped the cause with an assist. Stetson ‘Shack’ Reynolds was between the pipes in this one.

And another great team effort on Sunday saw the U11 team working 9 to 5 when they hosted Cold Lake, winning this one with the final score of 9 to 5. Shack was a bit busier in this game and came up with some timely saves when the game was still plenty close in the first period before the Avalanche put it into overdrive and left the Ice in the dust. The ‘Bull’ with five goals and two assists. The first one of his goals was scored short-handed. The Red Baron hit the target with three goals. Two assists each for the Tornado and Hardrock.
