Play It Again at Player’s Lounge

We created a bit of controversy with our last review of Players Lounge. We were contacted by a staff member who told us that when management heard of our review and the concerns that we brought up; there were a few meetings and some changes made. They also asked if we could come back for another review. We did not let the restaurant know that we were going to come in again as we do not want special treatment. Indeed, we didn’t plan on coming today as we were going to check out the new place, Carz. But unfortunately they are closed on Mondays. Just an aside, Carz, please update your hours on your Facebook page.

So at the last minute we ended up at Player’s Lounge. This was on my lunch hour so we had some time constraints. We had met up with a friend as well so there were three of us to please today!

The lounge was fairly empty when we arrived, only 2 other tables, but it soon got busier and our server was really moving. The bartender was quite a bit slower however, with only one person at the bar. There were also runners from the kitchen who were bringing out food. Our server was friendly and very efficient. She recommended dishes and asked about preferences. Excellent service.players-garlic-ribs players-pot-skins

Our friend and I ordered the potato skins to start. I loved them the last time we were there and they did not disappoint this time, although the skins could have been cooked just a few minutes longer. The flavor was great. Jan ordered the dry garlic ribs. These ended up coming with fries. This seemed to be a lot of food for an appetizer. An appetizer is a small portion of food that stimulates (or teases) your appetite. Leaving out the fries would be a smart move here and just having a garnish of celery. As well, the ribs were a commercial product that can be found anywhere. The ribs were done nicely and were tasty.

Because the server had warned us of the large portions of the appetizers, I shared Jan’s entree. He ordered the Rueben Sandwich with a side greek salad (my part!). He was very happy with the Rueben which was served on a Cornbread bun for a nice twist. I liked my salad, which had a generous topping of feta cheese and a very mild but flavorful dressing.players-burger players-rueben

Our friend had a burger and side salad. Both looked delicious, but because he had the potato skins, he was too full to eat the burger and took it home to enjoy later.

Our server was attentive, keeping my coffee refilled as well as the guys’ pops. There was no push on alcohol which was perfect for the lunch crowd.

Many of the issues we saw at Player’s last review have been taken care of and we were impressed with the changes.

It paid to pay Player’s Lounge a second visit. One day we will try to get there to try out the Poutine Bar!
