M.D. residents have access to seeing if there are extra ways they can protect their homes from wildfires.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority has been working with Wawanesa Insurance and been awarded a grant to purchase wildfire prepardness kits.

They will also do assessments on your property to see if there tips to mitigating potential dangers.

Especially with the current high profile wildfires cases around us, you can never be too cautious when it comes to wildfire mitigation.

“Being prepared for that is very, very important, on top of protecting your property, or trying to mitigate the risks to your property,” said BRFA captain Dwayne Ethier.

“Tat’s part of this program where we’ve got the grant funding from Wawanesa Insurance. They’ve allowed gave us the money to purchase the kits and our MD residents can receive a free kit.”

This is what’s called a Fire Smart property asssessment.

“I’ll do an assessment on the property and it’s not any law or things you have to do. We’ll take a look at the risks your property has and what you can do as a property owner to clean up, changed a few things to mitigate that risk of your house burning down during a wildfire. And if we come out and do that property assessment, we’ll give you a full report on it.”

By calling 780-826-4755 or emailing Ethier at dwayne.ethier@brfa.ca, you can set up this consultation and receive the kit.

These kits include emergency items like flashlights, to food and packaged water, or other items that are good to have on-hand.
